Video menus vs PDF & paper menus

Most restaurants still hand diners a laminated page or a PDF scan behind a QR code. It works — until a price changes, a dish sells out, or a diner wants to know what the food actually looks like. Here's an honest side-by-side.

The real cost of a paper menu isn't the paper

A reprint is cheap. What's expensive is everything around it: the week your prices are wrong while the new run is at the printer, the specials you don't run because it's not worth a reprint, and the dishes diners skip because a name like “braised short rib ragù” means nothing without seeing it. A video menu removes the friction — you change the menu the moment the kitchen does.

PDFs behind QR codes are the worst of both worlds

Scanning a QR code to pinch-zoom a PDF is the most common “digital menu” today — and diners quietly hate it. It loads slowly, reads terribly on a phone, and still can't show the food. If a diner is already on their phone, give them something built for the phone: fast sections, autoplaying dish videos, tap for details, allergens on every item.

Seeing the dish sells the dish

Menu language undersells food. Video does the opposite: steam, texture, pour shots, the cheese pull. Diners who watch a dish are more confident ordering it, ask fewer questions, and trade up to signature items more often — which is exactly where your margin lives.

FAQ

Common questions

Do diners need to install an app?

No. The menu opens in the phone's browser straight from the QR code — no download, no signup.

Can I still have a printed menu too?

Of course. Many restaurants keep a minimal print menu and put the video menu on table QR codes and their social bio. The QR link never changes, so prints stay valid forever.

What if I don't have videos of my food?

You can start with photos and add clips over time, or book our on-site content team to shoot your dishes professionally in one visit.
